Align Template1
Using the ALIGN Template in Quely
The ALIGN template in Quely helps Agile teams structure planning and decision-making around their Jira work, whether you're preparing for a sprint, grooming the backlog, or reviewing progress.
Designed to keep communication focused and actionable, ALIGN sessions combine async flexibility with structured facilitation tools like AI-generated prompts, estimation, documentation, and more all directly tied to your Jira issues.

When to Use the ALIGN Template
The ALIGN template is ideal for:
- Sprint Planning
- Backlog Grooming / Refinement
- Async Sprint Reviews
- Feature Discussions
- Cross-functional Planning Sessions
- Retrospectives (when paired with Doc or Diagram)
It’s the go-to choice when your team needs to align on what to work on and how to work on it without needing a live call.
Setting Up an ALIGN Session
Here’s how to start:
- Create a new Quely session
Go to your workspace and click “ Create Session”.
- Choose the ALIGN template
This gives you access to estimation, discussion, doc, diagram, and highlight features.
- Import Jira tickets
Use the Session Picker to pull in stories, bugs, or epics you want the team to align on.
- Select Components
Choose which components are relevant for your session (e.g. Estimation, Highlights, Doc, Diagram). You can skip those you don’t need to keep the session lean.
- Invite your team
Share the session link with your team via email, Slack, or Quely chat. They can participate live or asynchronously.
Key Components Inside ALIGN
Here’s what you’ll find in a typical ALIGN session: ---

How ALIGN Fits Agile Workflows
Whether your team follows Scrum, Kanban, or a hybrid approach, the ALIGN template supports:
Agile Practice | How ALIGN Supports it |
|---|---|
Sprint Planning | Set priorities, estimate tasks, and assign based on capacity |
Backlog Grooming | Discuss, refine, and clarify upcoming Jira items |
Cross-team Syncs | Surface blockers and dependencies in real time or async |
Retrospectives | Use Doc + Highlights to capture feedback and follow-ups |
Async Reviews | Replace recurring meetings with clear, traceable discussions |
Best Practices ☑️
- Use AI-generated questions to kickstart discussion around each ticket
- Set expectations for async participation if your team is distributed
- Run ALIGN sessions before ASSIGN sessions to ensure work is understood before it’s distributed
- Encourage contributors to estimate individually before group consensus
